Thank you for your interest in a custom work of art!
Before contacting me for a commission, take a look at my current commission offerings to see if they fit what you are looking for, and read my commission policies below. The images provided will give you an idea of what kind of art you can expect to receive with each commission type. Commissions take a lot of time and energy for me; at the moment I am accepting mostly small commissions, and I will be very selective with the large commissions that I accept. I will not be accepting commissions that do not fit these offerings.
Available Commission Types
Black and White Pen Drawings/
These drawings will be done with black fineliner pen on paper. I’m open to most kinds of nature-based imagery for this commission type - mountains, landscapes, animals, plants, flowers, insects, etc. Let me know if you are commissioning the drawing for a tattoo design, so that I can create a design that will translate well as a tattoo. Available in any dimensions up to about 6"x9". Sizing refers to the approximate drawing size, the actual paper will be a bit bigger (for example, a 6"x8" drawing will be on approximately 8"x10" paper).
Stylized Mountain Paintings
These paintings are stylized mountain landscapes made with matte acrylics and paint pen on paper. Let me know what kind of color palette you want, and if there are any specific elements you want to be included, and I will create an imaginary mountain scene for you. I’m also open to depicting specific mountains or places, but they will be done in a very simplified, abstract style similar to the examples provided. Available in any dimensions up to about 8"x10". Sizing refers to the painted area; all paintings are made with a half-inch unpainted border (meaning a 4”x6” painting will be done on a 5”x7” piece of paper).
These are my more realistic landscape paintings depicting real-life locations, with a mandala in the sky. These paintings are made with a combination of acrylics and pens, and are done on paper mounted to cradled wood panel approximately ¾” thick. The painting will be sealed and finished with a satin varnish to protect it against UV light, dirt, moisture, and other elements. I can frame your painting in a wood float frame for an additional charge, or install hanging hardware for unframed display at no additional charge. For dimensions other than the ones listed, please ask me about availability.
Because of the time commitment involved with these paintings, I will be very selective in the landscapes that I accept. I am most interested in painting large rock formations, mountains that are steep and rocky, and popular climbing destinations. I am less interested in painting foliage-covered mountains or relatively flat landscapes. Some places that I would love to paint for this commission type include Joshua Tree, Smith Rock, the Tetons, Squamish, the Dolomites, Zion, Moab, and the Flatirons.
To start the process, please e-mail me your proposal with as much as information as possible about what you would like. This includes commission type, size, imagery, colors, and any additional preferences you have. If you’re not sure, that’s okay, just let me know what elements are most important to you and where you’re open to suggestions, and I can help you figure out what will work best with your idea.
If you have any reference photos, please attach or link them in your email. References to my own work are especially helpful in letting me know how you would like your commission to look! If your concept is something I am willing to take on, and when I feel I have a good idea of what your commission will entail, I’ll provide you with a quote and ask for a deposit.
After receiving your deposit, I'll create a rough pencil sketch and send you a photo. I’ll then make a more refined sketch based on your feedback to the initial sketch. I’ll send you a photo of this second sketch to make sure we are on the same page, and then start the final piece upon your approval. If your piece is in color, I will provide a color palette, color study, and/or color reference for you to review before I begin. Once I put pen and/or paint to paper on the final it can be very difficult for me to make changes to the design, so please bring up any concerns you may have during the sketch phase!
When the artwork is completed, I'll send a photo to make sure you're happy with it, and ship it to you after receiving final payment plus shipping costs. Shipping is free for works on paper shipped in the United States. I put a lot of time and energy into every piece of art that I create, and I appreciate your patience while I work on your art. If you have a strict deadline like a wedding or birthday that you need to have your commission completed by, please let me know at the beginning!
The price for your commission will be based on multiple factors including size, media, style, design complexity, etc. The base prices given above for each commission type will give you an idea of what to expect, but be aware that your price may be higher depending on the detail and complexity of your concept. My minimum for custom work is $150.
Your quote is based on what we discuss during the proposal phase, and my process outlined above. Adding elements not discussed during the proposal, requesting extra edits during the sketch phase, or requesting changes after I've begun the final piece may increase the total price. If you make a request that will increase the quoted price, I’ll let you know before executing it.
Deposits + Cancellations
I ask for a non-refundable deposit of $100 - $200, depending on commission size and type, before beginning your commission. If you are unhappy with the finished product or no longer want the commission at any point in the process, you may cancel the commission, in which case I keep the art and your deposit. If at any point in the process I try to communicate with you and don’t hear back within 14 days, I will assume you no longer want the art and your commission will be cancelled. Artwork from cancelled commissions may be altered and/or sold to another buyer.
Please let me know if your commission is for a tattoo design, and I'll do my best to create a design that will translate well on skin. You have my permission to take the art that you commission to an artist of your choice to get as a tattoo. My only conditions are that you credit me for the design if you share the tattoo online, and you communicate with your artist that they MUST credit me anywhere that they use the tattoo to promote themselves; this includes their social media, online portfolio, physical portfolio, etc. A line such as "design by @lizzydaltonart, tattooed with permission" is appropriate credit.
I also ask that you get the tattoo done by licensed, reputable artist, whose portfolio demonstrates that their style suits the design you want. I would like any reproduction of my work to reflect positively on my original art. And please send me a photo if you are comfortable doing so, I'd love to see the outcome!
I will be learning to tattoo starting in September of 2021, and I would love to be the artist who tattoos the design I create for you! If you commission a tattoo design and decide to have me tattoo it on you in the future, the fact you have already paid me for the design will be taken into consideration when I charge you for the tattoo. How much the tattoo is discounted will be based on how I determine my rates at the time you get the tattoo, but I hope to be able to apply most, if not all, of your commission price to your tattoo.
Please note that at this time I am not designing large tattoos such as full sleeves, half sleeves, leg sleeves, full back pieces, full chest pieces, etc.
The policies and price quotes on this page apply to individuals looking to purchase an original piece of art to display in their home (or wear as a tattoo). Please be aware that I will still own the copyright to the image I create for you, and may decide to make prints, stickers, or other products with the design. If you commission a tattoo design, I will not grant others permission to get the design tattooed. You may not reproduce the art without my permission. If you are looking to commission a design that will be used for commercial purposes, please read more about commercial work here. If you would like to reproduce the design for personal use, please let me know when requesting your commission.
